What’s new in Android 4.2.2
Android 4.2.2 isn’t quite official yet, but it’s slow roll out has been bolstered by manual download links and folks are finding a few new things in the latest firmware. Most of it is behind the scenes and will be covered by words like “stability enhancements” and bug fixes, and those are what’s really important. A specific that folks are reporting is a fix to the Bluetooth stack to fix audio stuttering, and that’s something folks have been waiting for. Equally important is that plenty of people are saying their Nexus devices are no longer randomly rebooting, so if you have an issue there hopefully Android 4.2.2 fixes it.
There are some other user-facing changes that probably won’t apply to anyone without a Nexus device. Once a manufacturer gets their hands into the code, they tend to change these types of “features” to something that fits in with their version of Android a it better. Often times their version works better than stock Android, so we’re not going to complain that they get changed. Here’s what folks using stock are seeing:
- When connecting via adb to a computer for the first time, you’re prompted to allow the connection. This small security enhancement will help keep your bootloader locked device safe if you lose it.
- App download notification have been changed. Now you’ll see a progress bar that tells you the time remaining in addition to a percentage downloaded.
- Quick settings have been enhanced. Users can now long press on the Wifi and Bluetooth icons to toggle the setting.
- New sounds for wireless charging initiation and low battery alert. Users will now hear a notification sound when the device is placed on a wireless charger. In addition the low battery sound has been changed.
- Vibration for notifications is longer in duration
- New Gallery app animation allows faster loading.
Really, nothing there anyone would miss if Samsung, HTC or any other manufacturer decided not to implement it. In short, 4.2.2 sounds like the bug fix update everyone has been waiting for. These kinds of updates are the ones we like seeing!
Multi-tasking on Android based devices
Cornerstone is an extension to the Android Framework, created by Onskreen, enabling true multi-tasking on Android based devices.
Story behind Cornerstone
As Android exploded and it grew to be used on tablets, the user experience did not evolve to support the richness of the larger screen devices. By default, the user experience designed for 3″ devices were simply blown up to fit on 7 and 10 inch screens. This didn’t take advantage of the larger screen size in any meaningful way, there was just so much more these devices could do.
We created Cornerstone so that Android would truly be optimized for these larger screens and users could multi-task the way they have become used to. Cornerstone was open sourced in Feb 2012.

Full Specifications of Leaked Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung is planning to launch 3D Android smartphones next year. Company is actively working on the next generation of 3D technology to integrate in these smartphones, they won’t just provide 3D display, but will also help you play 3D games, record 3D movies and work with 3D TVs.
Apart from these new 3D devices, Samsung might also include the technology in Galaxy S III. According to ETnews, it is however not final till now whether Galaxy S3 will come with 3D or not, but in order to procure 3D components at a major level, Samsung would need six months and that would delay the S3 launch. Thus Galaxy S 3D (tentative name) might be company’s first 3D Android phone, which is expected to launch in Q2, 2012.
Korean publication further stated that Galaxy S III announcement is currently scheduled for Mobile World Congress with availability in April. S3 is expected to feature a quad core processor; but there is no word on other specifications, which we suspect would include Android 4.0 and at least 4.5 inch display.
Highlight Features of Samsung Galaxy S3:
- NFC Chip,
- 3rd generation Super AMOLED 3D Screen,
- Ultra Low SAR Levels,
- Blazing fast Speeds with Quad Core Processor,

How To Root Your HTC Incredible S
The HTC Incredible S is a beast, but it’s more like one that’s chained and caged. To really feel its power, you need to root it. Surprisingly, it’s quite easy to do so. Here’s how.
First, before you can root your HTC Incredible S, you need to make your device “S-OFF” (this means SECURITY OFF). This allows you to overwrite system files, which is a requirement for rooting.
Requirements:
- HTC Incredible S
- Computer (Your OS must be Linux or Windows)
- USB data cable
To check if your device is S-OFF or S-ON, follow these steps:
- First, click on Menu. Then tap on Settings > Applications > Turn off Fast Boot.
- Then, turn off the phone.
- Hold Volume Down key and Power button simultaneously for a few seconds.
- This will reboot the phone and show you a white screen with some text. Check the first line to see if the phone is S-OFF or S-ON.
- Also take note of the number next to HBoot on screen. You will need that information later
how to increase stack size in linux.
Normally you would set the stack size early on, e,g, at the start of main(), before calling any other functions. Typically the logic would be:
- call getrlimit to get current stack size
- if current size < required stack size then
- call setrlimit to increase stack size to required size
In C that might be coded something like this:
